The other thing to get out of the way right up front here, is that Dirty Pictures is a more than 400-page book that covers the history of a visual medium, yet it contains no images. I could quote at length the comments of a number of people in the book, whose reactions to the cover include "ridiculous," "wrong headed," "visually illiterate," "hate," and "what was he thinking?," but you get the point. ![]() And the art direction of the cover, generally. In an informal survey of a handful of cartoonists covered in the book.
